Ex-Zamfara governor Sani appears before NHRC panel, agrees to settlement

Confusion enveloped the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state after the name of Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, former governor of the state went missing from the master lists of the APC membership register.

The absence of his name thereafter exempted him from the nationwide ongoing revalidation exercise of the party membership.

The exercise which initially commenced on the February 13, 2021 in Zamfara state was chaired by Alhaji Karetu Lawal along with six other members who were given mandate by the National Headquarters of the APC to conduct the exercise across the 14 local government councils, 147 wards and 2,716 polling units across the state.

Blueprint reports that Senator Yerima was at his home town Bakura, the headquarters of Bakura local government since last Friday, specifically to participate in the ongoing revalidation exercise of the APC membership but the revalidation committee ignored him, a situation which led him to come down to Gusau the state capital on Sunday to wait for the committee’s response but he was yet to hear of anything from those in charge.

When contacted, Senator Yarima told Blueprint that he contacted all the relevant stakeholders and authorities to discover the rationale behind the committee’s action and solve the problem amicably.
Blueprint findings revealed that the action was not unconnected with the alleged recent romance with the People Democratic Party (PDP), by Senator Yerima.

Senator Yerima on Saturday had while in Bakura challenged those opposing the incumbent governor Matawalle of the PDP and his government were challenging the will of God.

Senator Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima born on 22 July 1960) was the governor of Zamfara State from May 1999 to May 2007, and served as Senator for Zamfara West and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate.
