An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Monday remanded five persons for allegedly burning and harvesting body parts of policemen in Ibadan.
The defendants are Kemi Adeyemo, 34; Saheed Oyedepo, 43; Mubarak Aliu, 24; Abiodun Adewale, 17; and Ifakorede Oladipupo, 40.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Adewale Amos, the defendants are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, murder, burning and illegal possession of two human heads of burnt policemen.
Amos said, “The five defendants, while armed with cutlasses and knives allegedly killed or caused the death of Sgt. Ajibola Adegoke and Cpl. Oladele Rotimi, both attached to B-Operation Department, State Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
“The defendants, Kemi, Oyedepo, Aliu, Adewale and Oladipupo, allegedly burnt and also harvested sensitive body parts of the policemen.
“The defendants allegedly committed the offences on Oct. 22 at about 2:30p.m. at Wema Bank area, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
“Oladipupo, on the same day, at about 7:30p.m., had in his possession two human heads, which he received from the duo of Aliu and Adewale, knowing same to be heads of two policemen with the intent to use the heads for charms.”
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 316 (3) and punishable under Sections 319 (1), 324, and 329 (A) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, who did not take the plea of the defendants, however, remanded them at the Police State Headquarters, Eleyele, pending the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Idowu, thereafter, adjourned the matter till Feb. 24 for mention.
The victims were identified as policemen killed by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest in Iwo Road, Ibadan.
