A chemist, Hakeem Abimbola has told an Ile-Tuntun Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve the 21 year-old union between him and his estranged wife, Adewumi, alleging that she sleeps with a Pastor in their neighbourhood.
Countering his wife’s allegations of habitual indebtedness and shameful behaviours, Abimbola who resides at Amunloko in Ibadan said that he consented to Adewumi’s request for separation because she is a street prostitute and a disgrace to womanhood.
He further said that he warned the Pastor to stop trespassing with his wife, but their immorality continued unabetted.
“My lord, many people including some of the church members informed me that Pastor Kayode is having romantic affairs with my wife while she had stopped all her wifely responsibilities at home.
“I reported the Pastor to the church elders and the landlord association and they spoke to him to stop messing up with my wife, but he ignored their counsel”.
He said all his warnings to Adewumi to stop going to Pastor’s Kayode’s church fell on deaf ears as he had to forcefully go there on a particular Sunday morning to drag her out.
“On getting home, the Pastor sent a vehicle to help her pack all her property from my house.
“Besides, Adewumi took our last child to that Pastor’s church for christening the same day we did Islamic naming ceremony in my house which gave me serious concern.
“All the attempts made by the landlord association to resolve the rift for us did not materialize because Adewumi was bent on her escapade with Pastor Kayode,” Abimbola explained.
The respondent also informed the court that his wife was a Muslim and that her father was even an assistant Imam in his lifetime.
In her earlier account, adewumi had contended that she was tired of the embarrassment her husband usually make go through as a result of his habitual indebtedness.
She further said that she had gone bankrupt as a result of helping Abimbola to refund his debts.
“Worst still, Abimbola has sold all the property in the house including electronics, mattress and my golden jewerries,” Adewumi said.
In his ruling, the court’s President, Chief Henry Agbaje held that the duo was the reason for their collapsing marriage due to the seeming rivalry between them.
Agbaje consequently requested them to produce their relatives in court and adjourned the case until Jan. 13 2021 for judgment.
