A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Network for Justice has urged the Nigerian Police Force to release Alhaji Mahadi Shehu the Katsina-born businessman, based in Kaduna from detention and arraign him to court.
National Chairman of the organization, Alhaji Bashir Kurfi, made the appeal in a statement in Katsina on Sunday.
Kurfi said that Mahadi was arrested few weeks ago by the Nigerian Security Establishment and eventually detained by the police in Abuja.
“We the Network for Justice recognize the function of security Enforcement Agencies to arrest, detain but also recognizes the Fundamental Human Rights of the Nigerian Citizens”.
“In the past few weeks, Mahadi has established himself as Whistle Blower to expose the alleged mismanagement of over N50 billion public funds by some officials of Katsina State Governmnt”.
“He provided bank accounts, financial transactions, dates and names of people involved in the allegation”.
“We are worried, Mahadi’s allegation was not investigated by Katsina Government despite his petition to EFCC and ICPC”
“While we recognize the functions of the Security Agencies with regard to arrest, detention etc, the network for justice demand the constitution right for the allegations by Mahadi be thoroughly be investigated and the culprits should be brought to book”
“As human Right Organisation, we hope and assume, while Mahadi is in custody of the Law Enforcements, he must be treated with dignity as provided by our laws and best International Practice”, the organization said.
