An Ekiti Customary Court in Ikole Ekiti on Friday dissolved an 18-year-old marriage between one Olusola Abiodun and his wife, Kehinde.
The President of the court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, dissolved the marriage on the grounds of no due respect for the petitioner, Olusola Abiodun and his family, moving out without consent, adultery and mere cohabitation.
Ojo , in her judgement, said that every effort taken by the court to promote amicable settlement between the parties failed, therefore ordered both parties to go their separate ways.
She awarded the custody of the children of the parties who were 16, 14 and seven years old respectively to the petitioner.
Ojo ordered the petitioner, 51, to be responsible for the upkeep and paying of school fees of the children.
She ruled that the petitioner would always protect the children from every forms of abuse, be it physical or sexually.
Ojo granted the children unlimited access to their mother, adding that sleeping over in her place are only allowed during the weekends and school holidays.
Earlier, the petitioner in his evidence, told the court that the respondent is the mother of his three children and they both jointly take care of the children.
Abiodun said that he was instituting divorce suit because the respondent had not been submissive to him, never heeded to warnings to stop taking up labouring job.
He explained to the court that the respondent constantly embarrasses him and fond of making uncultured friends.
The petitioner prayed to the court to order the respondent to change her ways and would withdraw the case but if not, he would be seeking for dissolution and custody of his three children.
The respondent, Mrs Olusola Kehinde, 50, in her defence, told the court that she did the manual jobs because the petitioner was not adequately performing his responsibilities and not taking care of her and the children.
Kehinde, said that she was ready to change if the petitioner could also change for the better and where that was impossible, she would also seek the custody of her children.
