Mr Abdullahi Candido, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), says he is ready to support young candidates seeking to succeed him.
Candido said this on Thursday at the launch of a book titled: “Leave no Stone Unturned”, in Abuja.
The book, which has 22 chapters in 135 pages, was written in honour of Candido. It reflects his political achievements, biography, leadership qualities, among others.
Candido stressed that it was important to give hope to the youths in the country by promoting political inclusion and fair play.
“We need to do something to give hope to the citizens and young ones coming behind us.
“That is why I am not going to support anybody who wants to contest for AMAC Chairmanship position if he or she is above 45 years.
“We must support the young ones to come up so that we can have a better Nigeria,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to the people of the area council for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
He, however, charged other political office holders to live up to the expectations of their people and ensure that dividends of democracy were given to them.
The book reviewer, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, who is the Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, charged political leaders to be assessible to their people and lead with integrity.
Mohammed commended the chairman for his achievements since he started steering the affairs of the council.
“The authors captured the biography of Candido, especially the relationship between him and his late mother who had enormous influence on him.
“The book also captured his achievements in the area of education, health, youth empowerment and so on.
“In all, it captures a leader who is exemplary and works with principles,” he said.
He called on politicians to maintain close ties with their people, remain consistent in character and provide an opportunity for inclusive governance.
The book was written by Messrs Babatunde Imran and Ewuga Lucky.
The event had in attendance representative of the FCT minister, former chairmen of the area council, chairmen of the six area councils, political party leaders, AMAC staff, students among others.
