The Sokoto state government through Zakkat and Endowment Commission (SOZECOM) established a hospital to cater for indigents with severe illness in the state.
Malam Muhammad Maidoki, the Chairman of the Commission, disclosed this at the Commission’s health committee meeting and disbursement of medical support for the needy through hospital and pharmaceutical shops committees.
Maidoki, said that the state government has since handed over Farfaru hospital along with all necessary equipment to start the special hospital assignment.
“We now have SOZECOM hospital that is under commission control, which will cater for the health issues of the indigents residing in Sokoto State.
“In deed, I wish to again emphasise that the facility is to support the indigents with no restrictions to tribe, religion or any political party.
“This is a project to support the society and by the grace of God the reward of such act is only from Allah,” he said.
The Chairman added that the introduction of the hospital doesn’t stop the commission’s monthly health assistance to the needy through their partner hospital and pharmaceutical shops.
“The SOZECOM hospital initiative is to add more measures toward ensuring that no less privileged persons in Sokoto state face difficulties while seeking medical treatment.
“Moreover, today we are disbursing N1.1 million to some selected hospital committees in the state for the free drugs and treatment exercise for people who can not afford their medical bills.
“As such, I urged the members of our various hospital Committees to ensure transparency and accountability in handling the responsibility shouldered on them,” he said.
He further said that the medicines to be disbursed were endowment given by Alhaji Abdulkadir Dan’iyan-Jarma, a Sokoto State base Philanthropist, through the Commission.
He appealed on wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture, not only through the commission but within their locality or even visiting the hospitals to support those in dear need.
Maidoki thanked Gov. Aminu Tambuwal and his Deputy Alhaji Munir Dan’iya, for their sustained support and dedication to the activities of the Commission.
The benefitting hospitals’ committees included; Psychiatric Hospital Kware, Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital, Specialist Hospital and Wamakko Orthopedic hospital.
