#EndSARS: 1 feared dead, many injured as protest turns violent in Kano

Suspected hoodlums on Tuesday, attacked and dispersed #EndSARS protesters in Kano, leading to the death of one person and several others wounded.

The hoodlums armed with sticks and machetes attacked the protesters’ procession at Sarkin-Yaki by Sani Abacha Road, Sabon Gari area of Kano metropolis.

The rampaging youths attacked motorists, smashed windscreens, damaged vehicles and looted shops forcing businesses to close down while motorists diverted to other roads for safety.

According to eye witness account, some of the protesters sustain injuries in the attack, while others escaped unscathed.

An eye witness, Danjuma Ali, expressed concern over the violence that erupted during the protest.

Ali said protesters were demonstrating peacefully in Sabo Gari area when dozens of hoodlums attacked them in the process.

He alleged that one person was killed and many others wounded, while the hoodlums looted and torched shops.

Aminu Hashim, another resident, said that the prompt interventions by security agencies had saved the situation from further degenerating into choas.

Hashim said that security personnel deployed to the area prevented the repamging youths from further unleashing terror on unsuspecting members of the public.

When contacted, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the Police Public Relation Officer of the state command, could not be reached as giscphone was switched off.
