Port Harcourt International Airport on Tuesday confirmed that Evening Flights from Port Harcourt enrout Lagos airport have been cancelled due to ongoing “End Sars” protest in Logos State.
Mr Kunle Akinbinu, Heead of Operations of the airport said that the last flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos boarded at about 2pm.
He said that there was a security alert as at yesterday Monday informing on the protest.
“There has been heavy security presience within the airport and its environ, officials of the police and Civil Defense have been strategically placed around the East-west road leading to the airport community.
“While officials of the Nigeria Air force took charge of the airport premises.
“At about 4pm, protesters were all around the East-West road and by the airport gate which was already been barricaded by armed security guards.
“Most of the protesters were seen wearing black shirts and also bearing placards with “End Sars” inscription on them.
Meanwhile, some residents in the area have expressed fear on the likelihood of a breakdown of law should the protesters overpower the security officials.
The trend sudenlly disrupted normal business activities at the Port Harcourt International Airport and its environ.
This has also resulted to heavy traffic from the airport up to the East-West road throughout the evening
