The wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Akeredolu says empowerment and emancipation of women are utmost priority of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu since the beginning of his current administration.

Mrs Akeredolu said this while speaking with market women on Wednesday in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

She said that her pet projects Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), BEMORE and the newly Ondo Widows Care project meant to give palliatives to widows are to ensure that women are given recognition and empowered in the society.

According to her, `women are the pillars of the society and their contributions to the development of the economy cannot be overemphasized.

“I am entrenching the Widows Care to market women in the state so I urge them to register their names to benefit from Akeredolu’s soft loans to boost their businesses.

“We already registered no fewer than 25,000 widows under the Widow’s Care and we gave palliatives to no fewer than 20,000 of them.

“This is not political because when we began the registration for the Widow’s Care, we did not ask for political parties, so I urge our market women irrespective of their political affiliation to register to benefit from the soft loans’’.

Mrs Akeredolu said that the husband is a man that loves the advancement of women and will never discriminate against them because for any economy to thrive, women must not be discriminated.

“That is why the empowerment of women is my utmost priority since the beginning of this administration,” She said.

She also urged the women to participate actively in politics to wrestle power from men who have dominated the economic, social and political spheres.

While responding on behalf of the market women, Mrs Dorcas Alale, the Iyaloja-General of Okitipupa LGA thanked the governor’s wife assuring that all women are behind the government.

Alale said the achievement of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu in infrastructure development in the last four years will automatically earn him reelection without stress.

She noted that the present administration has greatly impacted on the lives of its citizens by making life more meaningful to the people.

She, however, urged Iyalojas to vote massively and preach the gospel of the governor in the market to enable the good work to continue in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Governor’s Wife also visited Iyalajes/Iyalojas in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government where she urged them to register online for the good dividend of democracy and sought their support for governor in the Oct.10 governorship elections.

NAN also reports that Mrs Bukola Ayedatiwa, the wife of Akeredolu’s running mate, Lucky Ayeda, Mrs Oladunni Odu, the SUBEB Chairperson and other APC women stalwarts were among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
