The Delta Police Command has declared a former Minister of State for Education, Chief Kenneth Gbagi wanted over an alleged case of assault of four staff of his hotel.
Delta Police spokesperson, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said in a statement on Wednesday in Asaba that the Command declared Gbagi wanted following his refusal to honour its invitation for questioning.
“Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi was invited by the Commissioner of Police through the Area Commander Warri and DPO Ebrumede Division on September 25th, 2020 for questioning.
“His invitation was over the alleged dehumanizing manner in which he ordered four of his staff to be stripped naked and physically assaulted because of an alleged case of stealing.
“The alleged incident took place at Signatious Hotel, Warri belonging to Gbagi.
“Gbagi personally and severally called and gave the excuse that he is attending the burial of his sister on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 in which he is a key player.
Onovwakpoyeya said that the former Minister pleaded that he should be given time to finish with the burial ceremony thereafter, he will report at the State Headquarters on Monday Sept. 28, 2020.
According to the police image maker, Gbagi’s requests were granted on humanitarian ground.
She said that On Monday Sept. 28th, 2020, Gbagi called the Commissioner of Police to say that he has a court case to attend, promising to report at the Police Headquarters in Asaba by 3:00pm same day.
The police spokesperson said that on the same date, the Commissioner of Police had to call Gbagi at about 5:00pm to remind him, and the former Minister told the CP that he was on his way to the State Police headquarters, Asaba.
“But sadly and unfortunately, Gbagi still failed to report instead he went into the public space to disparage, blackmail and maligned the person of the Commissioner of Police.
“Gbagi disparage the person of the CP and the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command for insisting on investigating him.
“So, having failed to honour his promises, the Delta Police Command is left with no other option than to declare Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi wanted,” Onovwakpoyeya said.
The police spokesperson therefore called on members of the public with useful information as to Gbagi’s whereabouts to report to the nearest Police Station for his immediate arrest.
