Niger state House of Assembly has called for the establishment of the School of Medical Sciences at the Federal UniversityTechnology (FUT) Minna.
This was the resolution of the house after a motion presented by Alhaji Yabagi Akote, Member, Representing Gbako Consistency in Minna on Thursday.
The motion was seeking stakeholders interface for the establishment of the School of Medical Sciences in FUT Minna.
Alhaji Abdullahi Wuse, Speaker of the House, while reading the resolution of the house, said that the state Governor, Abubakar Bello should meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to present the matter to him so as to actualised the project.
He added that the house would interface with the governor, senators and house representative members from the state, vice chancellors of FUT Minna and IBB University and the Medical Directors of FMC, Bida and IBB specialist hospitals on the project.
Earlier, Akote, had lamented that Niger state created in 1976 does not have Federal government owned School of Medical Sciences which provides man power for medical services.
“It will be good to have the schools in FUT Minna and IBB University to make it easier for our students to gain admission easy to study medical courses,” he said.
The lawmaker disclosed that students from the state pass through difficulties before gaining admission into medical schools in other states.
He noted that neighbouring states such as Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kwara have one or two school medical colleges and students from Niger who go to university for remedial courses were denied admission into these schools.
He added that there was need for the house to interface with major stakeholders that would facilitate the establishment of the school in FUT Minna.
