The Lagos State Emergency Managment Agency (LASEMA) on Saturday in Lagos, confirmed the collapse of a three storey building, belonging to Excell College Ejigbo.
The building is located at No. 15, Ansarudeen Str. Ile Epo Bus stop, Iyana Ejigbo.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, told newsmen that the collapsed building did not trap anyone, as schools that had been under locked down, were billed to resume on Monday, Sept. 21.
According to him, the building which collapsed at about 8:15 a.m is part of a conjoined (twin) three storey building.
He said that the collapsed portion, which was attributed to “visible distress”, had seriously affected the second wing, as shown by visible cracks on the walls, pillars and decking of the second portion.
“Distress calls received established that the building collapsed at about 8:15 a.m.
“Information gathered from some officials of the school revealed that the building had previously shown signs of distress and the school was planning to renovate and refortify the structure.
“The three storey building has two wings conjoined, the wing that collapsed has seriously affected the second wing, as visible cracks can be seen on the walls, pillars and decking.
“Fortunately, nobody was trapped, no injuries and no fatality has been recorded.
“Responders to the incident scene are LASEMA, Lagos State Building collapse Agency (LASBCA), and the Nigerian Police Force (Ejigbo Division),” he said.
