Ogume Community in Diaspora, OCD a group of Ogume indigenes living outside the community has condemned the recent crisis which engulfed the agrarian community which led to the death of three persons including Patrick Ogochukwu Nzete a 500 level (final year) Electrical Electronics Engineering student of the University of Port Harcourt, Raymond Akpe alias Aboki and wanton destruction of properties

Ogume Community located in Ndokwa-West Local Government Area of Delta state has been hotbed of crises over the last few months over alleged discovery of crude oil in the community.

The group called on the Delta state governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene and set up a fact-finding investigation panel to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the mayhem which has pitched brotherly communities almost into a war.

The Convener of the group, Mr. Jerry Ogume expressed extreme sadness on the development which occurred on Sunday August 16 saying it is really disappointing and baffling that a community which has for a very long time been very peaceful can suddenly turn to a war zone where three youths were killed with many injured and admitted into different hospitals.

“The recent horrible attack by some miscreants parading themselves in the community is a spillover of muscle flexing between greedy political bigwigs who in their quest for power and position and because of the discovery of Crude Oil have dragged the youths into their selfish gameplay and using them to their very egoistic advantage.”

“Unfortunately also the youths who should know better are following sheepishly; if this is not checkmated it will bring serious consequences on the peace and tranquility of the once serene Ogume Nation,” he declared.

“For a realistic resolution of this conflict and for peace to return totally, we appeal to Governor Okowa to as a matter of urgency to do the following: constitute an independent investigative panel, ensure that the villains are brought to book and call the known beefing politicians to order and help the Ogbole Ogume community to resolve the lingering leadership tussle for the chairmanship of the CDC and OKPALA-UKU position.

These actions will effectively put a stop to this unbecoming crisis,” he advised.

Co-Convener of the group, Engr. Larry Emeke Ogwezi said never has the peace of seven (7) quarters that make up Ogume Nation been threaten than now while calling on Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa to address this issue by instituting something like the Otuaro peace committee which helped secure peace and harmony among Delta communities while also imploring him to engage the youths of Ogume in more productive ventures to steer them away from being used by some power mongers to perpetuate and unleash violence on their community.

Ogume Community in Diaspora, OCD is a mass movement of Ogume sons and daughters (married and or single) living in the Diaspora.

It is non-partisan (no party affiliation), non-religious (non-denominational) and of no political agenda.

The association’s main objective is peace, harmony and real, positive sustainable development.

The platform is willing and ready to work to re-build and improve the community to an enviable status among the adjoining towns and villages in Ndokwa-West LGA, Delta State.
