The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu over alleged criminal conspiracy and impersonation against the association.
The petition addressed to the IGP was made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja by Abdullahi Maje, the IMC chairman.
According to him, the IMC, had also petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misappropriation by the Kolade David-led past administration of the association.
The petition partly read: “since coming to office as chairman of the IMC, we have been inundated with mind boggling fraudulent activities.
“The referenced infractions against ALGON are being called to questions by some public spirited organisations”, it said.
It would be recalled that the General Assembly of ALGON, which is its highest decision making organ recently inaugurated the seven-member IMC.
The committee headed by Maje, Chairman, Suleja Local Government, is to pilot the affairs of the association for a period six months.
The ALGON General Assembly had on May 30, 2020 during its extra-ordinary virtual meeting, resolved to set up the interim management committee following the lingering crisis rocking its national leadership.
The meeting said the approval for the constitution of the IMC was necessary due to the comatose status and conflicts among members of the association for the past eight months.
Maje said the IGP had responded to the petition through his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Idowu Owohunwa, assuring the association of thorough investigation into the matter.
He, however, appealed to the IGP and the EFCC to save ALGON which was the closest government to the grassroots from destructions being perpetrated by some persons.
Earlier, the Coalition Against Corruption Initiative (CACI) had also petitioned EFCC and other anti-graft agencies, claiming that it was “in possession of hard facts and documents” which indicated that there were alleged fraud in ALGON.
