The police on Wednesday arraigned a man, Mohammed Ibrahim in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in  Gwagwalada, FCT, for allegedly assaulting his former wife.

Ibrahim, who lives in Angwan Hausawa, kwali, Abuja, is charged with criminal force, assault, causing hurt and mischief.

The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that one Izzatu Ahmed reported the matter in Kwali Police Station on July 31.

Yakubu alleged that the complainant said that the defendant distracted  their son, whom she had sent on an errand.

He said that when the complainant confronted the defendant on why he distracted their son from going to where she sent him, he slapped, tore her clothes and pushed her to the ground.

The prosecutor said that the complainant sustained various degrees of injury and was treated in the Kwali Clinic .

He said that during police investigation the defendant confessed that he slapped the complainant twice.

Yakubu  said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 265, 244 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.

Also as part of the bail the magistrate said that the surety and defendant must all present their valid means of identification to the satisfaction of the court or their Bank Verification Number if there was no means of identification.

Ibrahim  adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for hearing.
