Sokoto State Government has approved the construction of a University Teaching Hospital and two other premier hospitals in the state.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Health, Dr Ali Iname, said teaching hospital would be constructed at N6.7 billion within 30 months.
He said the premier hospital in Tambuwal local government would be constructed at the cost of N1.8 billion while the one in Sabon Birni would cost N1.7 billion.
He added that the two projects were expected to be completed within 17 months.
The commissioner explained that the projects were part of efforts to uplift public healthcare in the state.
According to him, the teaching hospital would also serve as breeding grounds for health professionals that would man health facilities in the state.
Imane added that the premier hospitals would serve as links in proving improved healthcare services at the grassroots.
Also, the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Isa Bajini-Galadanci, said the temporary teaching hospital at Murtala Muhammad Hospital would be returned to its old status.
The briefing was also attended by the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Abdussamad Dasuki.
