Dr Onyeka Ibezim, Managing Director of the Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to provide free oxygen to all public hospitals and health centers in the state.

Ibezim said this on Tuesday in Awka.

Gov. Willie Obiano in August 2019, inaugurated the multi-million naira medical oxygen plant sited at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku,Awka.

Ibezim said the center had been working round the clock to ensure that all the public hospitals and Primary Health Centres in the State get needed oxygen for assistance to their patients .

He said the plant was capable of producing 200 standard oxygen cylinders daily and was currently the biggest in the South–East, built primarily to meet local demands from medical needs in the state.

“This is a tall order from his excellency, our amiable governor, and we must support his goal to provide quality health service to the people of Anambra,” he said .

He explained that oxygen was important to the human body, especially in cases of trauma as a result of accidents, contraction during labour, or severe asthma, when certain levels of oxygen would be needed to resuscitate victims.

“Anambra has 34 General Hospitals and 700 primary health centers and we are expected to provide free oxygen to these hospitals to ensure quality healthcare delivery,” he said.

Ibezim said that though the Coronavirus pandemic had made work very tedious, the plant would however, continue to put in its best by giving support to people faced with health challenges.

“Oxygen is used for special cases and the COVID-19 pandemic has given more rise to demand for oxygen, but we are working hard to meet any demand from the medical centres.

“Oxygen is life and a critical component in the delivery of healthcare services and this is reason Obiano had to invest in it,” he said.
