The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors on Thursday began Constituency and Executive Project Tracking in Ebonyi.
Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, the Chairman of the Commission, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abakaliki while flagging off the exercise.
Owasanoye was represented at the event by Tanko Abdullahi, Head, Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Group (CEPTG), Enugu.
The chairman said that the essence of the exercise was to examine, check and ensure these projects had been executed to the specification agreed upon.
According to him, the commission is collaborating with the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors to take measurements and determine, if the projects were actually done to specification.
Owasanoye noted that the commission was partnering other stakeholders to include Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society groups and the media, to witness the inspection, take records and measurements as well.
He said that constituency projects consisted of health, education with infrastructure projects, identified by government agencies and also recommended by legislators at the federal and state levels.
“The commission is conducting a second phase of the project tracking at Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, because of its specific projects that attracted constituency and executive ventures,” he said.
Owasanoye identified the projects to be tracked to include the construction of rural access road, diagnostic centre at Alex Ekwueme Federal University (AE-FUNAI) among others, adding that other zones’ ventures would be tracked subsequently.
“We are deploying latest technology for this particular exercise, because we expect to get the best results from tracking activities.
“It is being carried out across the country simultaneously and the commission in Enugu covers Ebonyi and Anambra,” Owasanoye said.
