A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Thursday in Ibadan called on the anti-graft agencies to probe the COVID-19 expenditure of the state government.
The group made the appeal in a statement jointly signed by the faction’s Chairman, Chief Lowo Obisesan, and Secretary, Wasiu Olatubosun.
The group demanded a detailed breakdown of how N2.77 billion was purportedly spent on the COVID-19 pandemic by the Oyo State Government.
The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinola Ojo, had said the administration spent N2.77 billion on the fight against COVID-19 in the state.
The state government said that it had supported the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, with N118 million out of the N2.77 billion.
But the UCH and College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, had in separate statements debunked the claims.
“It is unfortunate that despite the grandstanding of the state government on the fight against COVID-19, the number keeps increasing in Oyo State.
“Since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, we have never had it bad as we are having today.
“They said N118 million was disbursed to the UCH which the hospital denied. They also claimed to have expended money in support of the College of Medicine which was also denied.
“We, therefore, urge the anti-graft agencies to investigate and uncover the alleged massive fraud ongoing in our dear state on the fight against COVID-19,” the group said.
