The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo say all is now set for the party’s governorship primaries billed for June 22, as there is no going back on the date.
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Chris Azebame said this on Saturday in Benin.
This was against the backdrop in a statement issued on Friday by the factional chairman of the party, Mr Anselm Ojezua.
Ojezua had in the statement rejected the Gov. Hope Uzodinma-led committee on the conduct of the party’s primary in the state.
The APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier constituted the election committee led by the Imo Governor to conduct a direct primary in Edo.
However the party’s publicity secretary said it was not Ojezua decision to make as the responsibility of conducting primaries rest with the National body and as such the June 22 date was sacrosanct and it would be direct primaries across the 192 wards across the state.
He further disclosed that against speculations in some quarters, that the party had a valid and updated party members register in the state, though he would not disclose the membership strength of party members expected to participate in the June 22 exercise.
