Kano police records 42 rape cases in 5 months

The Police Command in Kano State on Thursday said it recorded 42 rape cases in the state from January to May.

The Command Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this on Thursday in Kano.

He noted that the received 42 rape cases suspects across the state, had so far been investigated and charged to court for prosecution.

“The law enforcement agency have been dealing with all reported rape cases and gender based violence in the state.”

He revealed that base on statistics analysis “33.3 per cent of the rape incident was conducted in an uncompleted buildings, while  17.7 per cent at farm land.

“15.6 per cent in shops, 15.6 per cent at the suspects residents, 8.9 per cent in school premises, while 6.7 per cent rape cases were conducted at the victims residents and 2.2 per cent at market places.”

Haruna noted that the number of rape cases has drastically reduced when compared to the first half of 2019.

He urged residents of the state to report any case or any form of molestation as the police would continue to act promptly to such cases.

“Keeping quite without reporting rape cases, will make the perpetrators to continue committing the offences.

” Our doors are very open for advice, in this era of community policing, the Command incorporates community problem solving approaches in handling issues in the State ” the PPRO said.
