Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has inaugurated a committee on the state’s 2020 Ramadan feeding programme.
Tambuwal, while speaking at the ceremony on Sunday in Sokoto urged the 20 member committee to advise government on workable modalities that would facilitate successful implementation of the programme.
He cautioned the committee against politicising the programme adding that government had continued to record increased spending on the programme.
He attributed the increase to the increase in the number of beneficiaries as well as increase in the price of the commodities.
“We are aware of the relevance of Islamic scholars in the scheme of things in the state.
This is why we invited you to discuss this year’s Ramadan Feeding programme dispassionately.
“How do we improve it so that it will continue to be of benefit to the people of the state,” Tambuwal said.
Mallam Lawal Maidoki, the Chairman of the state Zakkat Commission, observed that over the years the Ramdan Feeding Programme had been faced with challenges.
Maidoki urged stakeholders work closely with one other in searching for best ways to execute the programme.
The Committee was headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saidu Umar.
Some members of the committee included the Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Religious Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Yabo and the state’s Commissioner for Religious Affairs.
