The Plateau Government has assured citizens of state that the fumigation chemicals being used by the government was safe for human beings, animals and plants.

Mr Idi Bamaiyi, the State Commissioner for Environment, gave the assurance on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.

The state Government had imposed a seven day lockdown on the state from midnight Thursday, April 9, for the fumigation of the entire state toward curbing the spread of the deadly Corona virus.

“The Chemicals ASTC is using for the fumigation of the State is well tested and very safe to all humans, animals and plants.

“The government carried out the Impact Assessment Analysis before embarking on the fumigation exercise, which we hope to complete within the seven days lockdown period.

“We are already in Plateau Central zone this Monday and hope to move to the Southern  zone by Tuesday to ensure that no local government area is left untouched, “ the Commissioner said.

Bamaiyi said that the exercise had recorded success, to the extent that some state governments were asking for similar exercise to be replicated in their states.

He said that the targeted areas in the exercise in the state were public places such as markets, Churches, Mosques, Hospitals and Secretariats, amongst others.

“We know that people expect us to cover all the districts in the 17 LGAs , which is very impossible and unnecessary, because only the public places that are always congested, that is why we are dealing  with major towns only, “ Bamaiyi explained.
