Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Saturday warned residents that anyone caught violating the directives of the state government on social distancing and others introduced to check Covid-19 would be charged to court.

Akeredolu gave the warning in Akure while flagging off the distribution of palliatives to the less privileged, in the face of measures put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

He said that the government would heighten enforcement of its directives and preventive measures announced to stop the spread of coronavirus, especially as a second case had been seen in the state.

“Now that we have seen the second positive case of Covid-19, our directives will now be enforced to the letter; anyone caught violating will go to court.

“Some others are carriers of this virus but it won’t show, hence our directive to everyone on social distancing. Please maintain social distance,” he said.

The governor urged the committee on palliatives to be fair in the distribution of the foodstuffs and distubute to as many people as deserving.

Akeredolu, who also explained that the items would be distributed through commissioners and aides at the local government level, thanked various companies for their donations to the state.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Olufunke Adu, the market leader of Ondo, thanked the governor for the magnanimous gesture to the less privileged in the state.

She said that the food items would go a long way to support the people who had to work daily to survive, but had to stay at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The food items distributed include rice, beans, garri, indomie, chicken, and groundnut oil.
