Sokoto COVID-19 committee partners media on awareness, prevention strategies

The Sokoto State Committee on Coronavirus has partnered the media to create awareness against the spread of the disease in the state.

The Chairman of the committee, Dr Ali Inname, who spoke at a strategic meeting for media executives in Sokoto on Tuesday, said that awareness was crucial in the fight against Coronavirus.

Inname, who is also the state Commissioner for Health, said that the media had crucial roles to play in awareness creation about best practices against the spread of the disease.

“We are engaging the media to ensure effective awareness creation; they are veritable tools in communicating relevant information about the disease to the public,” he said.

The chairman said that the committee was committed to delivering on its mandate of curtailing the spread of the virus in the state.

“As a committee, we are poised to implementing all the directives of the state government towards containing the spread of the disease.

“The meeting with the media is part of efforts to ensure synergy and collaboration with relevant stakeholders,” he said.

Inname commended the doggedness of the media so far, urging them to sustain their efforts in the face of the raging pandemic.’

He said that the Gov. Aminu Tambuwal-led government was fully committed to containing the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

According to him, his committee has so far received the sum of N3 million from five National Assembly members from the state.

He urged residents of the state to adhere strictly to all the precautionary measures prescribed by medical experts against contracting COVID-19.
